How block substitution works

Accepted a block but can't make it? Substitution lets you pass it to someone you know delivers, you both benefit.

NOTE: You can substitute up to 65 minutes before your block starts.

Step 1: Open the Amazon Flex app and find your upcoming block.

Step 2: Tap "Substitute" and select your registered Substitute.

Step 3: Your Substitute follows the guidance in the app to complete the block.

Here’s what you need to be a Substitute

Driver Eligibility

  • 18+ years old
  • Valid UK National Insurance number
  • Right to work in the UK for self-employed purposes

Essentials

  • Smartphone
  • Bank account
  • Pass a basic criminal background check
  • Not have had an Amazon Flex or Amazon account deactivated in the past

Vehicle Requirements

  • For car deliveries: valid UK driver's licence, a mid-size vehicle with 5 seats or larger, and a commercial insurance policy. You'll need Hire and Reward (H&R) insurance, as well as the minimum Social, Domestic and Pleasure (SD&P) insurance required by law.
  • For e-bike deliveries: have a battery-operated e-bike* that meets all EAPC standards, and public liability and personal accident insurance. Get a quote from Superscript.
    We recommend that you only purchase insurance when we request you to do so as part of the onboarding process. Purchasing insurance before being fully onboarded may result in unnecessary costs.

Vehicle Match

  • Substitute must arrive for a block with the same vehicle type you used to complete onboarding. For example, if you have an Amazon Now delivery block scheduled for e-bike, your Substitute cannot arrive in a car.

*E-bike must meet all Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) standards and legal requirements without any unlawful modifications
