Staying safe when delivering around dogs

Our deep commitment to safety guides our approach to everything at Amazon Flex. As a delivery partner, you may see dogs when you are delivering, so we provide resources that can help you stay safe in these situations. Here are some of the ways you can use these resources to prioritise your safety and deliver with confidence.
Before your delivery route
The best way to prevent an injury from a dog is knowing how to avoid an interaction. For helpful advice on how to do this, view the dog safety videos and suggestions in the Resource Portal of the Amazon Flex app. You can access these at any time under “Staying safe” > “What to do if there is a dog at a delivery location?”.
At a delivery station
Amazon Flex also provides postage pegs at delivery stations to keep you safe when delivering items to a customer’s letterbox. These items help protect your hands from injuries or dog bites and are a simple and effective device for pushing post through letterboxes without exposing fingers. Simply ask a station associate for a postage peg the next time you pick up a block.
Before you arrive to the delivery location
Once your delivery block begins, there are additional resources available to you in the Amazon Flex app. Before arriving at a delivery location, look for Customer Notes and a paw print icon in the app. The paw print icon means that a dog may be present, based on reports from delivery partners who used the “Report a dog on your route” option. Each paw print also has a “Find out more” link with helpful dog safety advice that you can instantly view.

At a delivery location
Looking for clues such as food and water bowls, and making noise such as announcing, “Amazon order,” can help you identify if a dog may be present at a delivery location. If you see a dog that is not secured, we recommend returning to the safety of your vehicle. Once you’re at a safe location, and it’s between 08:00 and 22:00, call or text the customer through the ‘?’ icon in upper right corner of the Amazon Flex app to ask them to come out and secure the dog. Outside of these hours, reach out to Driver Support for next steps.Your safety is our priority, and we do not expect you to ever make a delivery if you feel unsafe. We provide an option in the Amazon Flex app to indicate that you could not complete a delivery due to a dog safety concern. If you arrive at a delivery location and do not feel safe, you can also contact Driver Support through the Amazon Flex app.
